Have you ever struggled with hitting your resets in a pickleball game? A reset can be a difficult shot to execute, especially when you’re trying to transition from the baseline to get established at the kitchen line. Here are 3 simple tips that have helped my resets become more consistent and more accurate!
Tip 1. Adjust your grip strength: Did you know that your grip strength translates to how fast or how slow the ball comes off your paddle? When you have a loose grip strength, the paddle absorbs the ball and it comes off your paddle slower. The opposite is true because when you have a tight grip strength, the ball bounces off the paddle with more pace! So when it comes to hitting a reset off of someone else’s speed up, adjust your grip strength and keep a loose grip.
Tip 2. Contact point out in front: Contact point is a fancy word for the point at which your paddle makes contact with the ball. One of the biggest mistakes I see is when people are struggling with their reset is that they’re hitting the ball when it’s too close to their body or hitting the ball when it gets behind their body. When you hit the ball too close to your body you automatically jam yourself and you don’t really have the ability to aim the ball.
Tip 3. Adjust your paddle face: This is really important to utilize especially for your. An open paddle face is when your paddle face is facing the upward where as a closed paddle face is when your paddle edge is facing upward. The reason you want your paddle face open is so that you give the ball loft. Loft is really key for a successful reset because the longer the ball is in the air, the more time you have to get to the kitchen and get established. So make sure your paddle face is open so that you get really good loft on your ball.
